In August of 2001, I headed up to DC for a class in HLA
For those of you who have no idea what HLA is, then perhaps I should explain.
A long time ago, someone decided that it would be pretty keen if their military simulation could work with other military simulations. They invented this network protocol that would announce all the relevant information from each simulation in a manner that everyone could understand. But after a while, the relevant information got so expansive that the networks were jammed with traffic if you had more than several entities in the playing field. So to combat this, they produced a protocol that would divvy out the information more logically and avoid spouting out data that no one was using. This protocol was called High Level Architecture and is still heavily under development. Unfortunately, it will probably be obsolete before it ever gets implemented fully.
Evidently I was obsolete before I ever got implemented fully as well... heh.

I flew into Ronald Reagan National Airport. It really has been decorated wonderfully.
This was before 9/11, so everything was happy and lax. I did however ponder,
while I was there,
why the goverment would allow an aiport less than a few
miles from the White House and Capital.
I'm actually surprised nothing has
happened before now.
The best part about coming to DC is the architecture.
Of course, being the internet addict that I am, I had to find a net cafe to
plop myself down in at night.
This particular little coffee house had a peculiar air about it. I couldn't
quite figure it out till I noticed
all the gay porn saved on the hard drives
and the "out" magazines on the racks. Go figya.
The highlight of my trip was catching up with Ali. She had moved out of Huntsville
the summer before,
and is sorely missed.
And I got to meet all her goofy coworkers! She must have made a good impression,
as they took well to me.
Unfortunately, it's been so damn long that I can't remember a single one of
their names!.
